what's the haps???!
The Kid and I were sick pretty much from Halloween thru Thanksgiving, alternating-ly giving each other the same cold back and forth. We were both out of school or work for a day or two, then go back, then back home for another day. Her asthma really kicked in good, so she missed a few days of school. I was sick all Thanksgiving week, but still had to teach Excel 1,2,3, so it sucked!!!
Black Friday stores.....let's see, The Kid, Sylvia, Kisha, the baby and I were at Target about 4:40-ish. Madhouse, but I likes it. I bought a digital camera, a digital frame, a GPS system, a couple of flash drives. We also hit K-mart, Costco, Wal-mart, then the mall after having breakfast at Carrows. Walked around the mall (bought my gift exchange present for work at Macy's, a silver lazy Susan platter, regular $40, marked down to 19.99 for early bird special, then another $10 off with a newspaper Black Friday before 11 am coupon HAHAHA), Kayla bought a few items. I had my sister, brother, family distract Kayla while I bought her a special Jack Skellington fat mug at Disney store, and a Jack plush doll at Hot Topic too. The family went home, Kayla and I went to Best Buy. We walked around (she was getting tired), but by then, they'd sold out on a few of the things I wanted. I started looking at the HDTVs though and wound up buying one. A 32" Dynex (Best Buy brand made by LG) for only $449, plus a HD-DVD Toshiba for only $199. While standing in line, I glanced over at a pile of discarded items and noticed the 500GB external hard drive I'd wanted. After asking the Best Buy worker (Gino? Gilo?) if they were being held for someone, I snagged it. SCORE! We went home then. Tirrrrred.
We were in town on Thursday for Thanksgiving. Made a small turkey, a 10-pounder, plus loads of ham and side dishes. My brother, Junior, and nephew, Robert had driven down the night before from SD. My sister and my twin nephews, however, didn't come over as they usually do each year; they made their own meal and had people over at their house. After eating and eating some more, we headed out to our annual movie, but we split up. Mom saw "Enchanted," Junior, Sylvia, and Robert saw "The Mist," Kisha, Eddie, and Landynn watched "This Christmas," and Kayla and I watched "August Rush." All good movies I hope to see before they leave the theaters.

Free Rice
Have you heard of the website, www.freerice.com? Feed the hungry.
The Kid told me all about it last night, saying that her English teacher had all the kids in class (and each of his periods throughout the day) in the computer lab at this site. They practiced their vocabulary (SAT words) and for each vocabulary word they get right, you "win" 20 grains of rice to feed a hungry person.
This is a sister site to www.poverty.com which also has some cool visuals on poverty and disease. I found one other part, an International Aid solution, where 22 countries promised to give 0.7% to help end poverty. Sadly, the US has not done much work on it. So, there is a letter you can print out to send to the president. :)
