"300," PG version

I had to think long and hard whether or not I'd allow the kid to see this rated-R movie, what with its graphic battle scenes and sexuality.
So, I'm glad I found this PG version of the movie.

A great, campy video about those wonderful men of 300. This song has been stuck in my head since Monday....then again, so has the imagery of the movie. :)

There's also a longer version of it.

more 300

"Made in a time of frustration, when Americans are fighting a war that they can neither win nor abandon, '300' and 'Shooter' feel like the products of a culture slowly and painfully going mad." - article from the New Yorker.

Again, another article taking "300" way too seriously.

On another note, Victor Davis Hanson, the guy who wrote the foreward for the "300: the Art of the Film" book talks about the historical accuracy of the movie.

72 seconds

By the way, just how cool are those 60+ seconds of slo-mo, fast-mo action of King Leonidas taking on those enemy soldiers?? Limbs flying, sword swinging, spear throwing, muscles bulging....oh yeah!

big news for the kid!

So, the kid got several good news and reports yesterday.

First, the one I'm proudest of: she got a 100% on her math test. She's been struggling all year with Algebra, so this one's a big deal. :)
Second, she got a 100% on a history test which brought that grade up to a B. Again, struggled a bit all year, so I'm proud of her.
Third, the one she's proudest and jazzed about: she's been invited to try out for the varsity volleyball team next year (when she's a freshman, but still at the jr. high). With her playing club right now, she's improving weekly. Now, as for my thoughts on it, a) I don't think she's ready for varsity and b) it makes me wonder how bad the team is that they'd be asking some 8th graders to try out next year... But, like I told her last night, it's a great honor to be asked.

What action hero are you?

So, what kind of an action hero do you think you are? I've scored Terminator twice (Hmmm, I don't think I like what that says about me....), then Batman once. However, each time, Neo was at my #2 spot.

You scored as Batman, the Dark Knight. As the Dark Knight of Gotham, Batman is a vigilante who deals out his own brand of justice to the criminals and corrupt of the city. He follows his own code and is often misunderstood. He has few friends or allies, but finds comfort in his cause.
