Softball and technology
Kayla joined a softball team this month. It started when she went to watch her friends play a game a few weeks ago. I asked her if she wanted to play with them and she said no. When I mentioned that it would be a good way for her to hang out more with her friends and talk, she said, "sign me up!" She's playing catcher. First game as a starter this Friday evening...
I spent today at a videoconference about the Leader's Role in educational technology. Good keynote speaker in Susan Patrick from the US Dept. of Ed. There was also a good presentation by Barbara Rose from Apple, and John Ramirez from ACME Animation. What did I learn? One good thing is to remind educators and schools to report to their boards (and to Sacramento) about the good things kids are doing with technology, not just to bring complaints to the Board. Another is to no longer call what I do as teaching technology integration, but use "transformation" instead: student learning, student motivation, and access to technology. Now, I have to go look for that new book called "The World is Flat." It was recommended several times. :)

The book is at Costco hommie!!! $15 and change...I hope all this talk of changing the way we educate isn't just hot air...what we are doing is not working and the system is creating a society that will only consume, will only work in labor intensive jobs, and be slaves to the newly forming powers of the world...our childrens outlook is bleak...
Cool deal with Kayla...way to go stretch!!!
